Season Finales, and What’s Next?

It’s been a bit quiet here on the blog front, so I wanted to catch y’all up on what’s been going on since I got an agent. For those who have been following along on A Cook’s Guide to Cosmic Adventures – my serialized prequel of Mac and Garrick’s adventures prior to A Cook’s Guide to Supernatural Philadelphia, yesterday was the season 2 finale! I’ve been releasing new “episodes” every Tuesday and Thursday, pretty much non-stop, for the past two months.

Alongside that, I’ve been editing ACGTSP one last time before handing it over to my agent Trish for her editorial guidance. As of today, I just finished the last of my edits and have sent over to her! Yay! Another milestone achieved.

This isn’t to say I hadn’t edited the book prior to the query journey. But this is the first time I’ve looked at the book in almost 3 months. I mean, really read it start to finish. I have to say, I can’t recommend this enough if you’ve written a book yourself. Once you’re done and you’ve done a few edits you feel good with? Move on to the next project. Don’t even think about the recently completed book for a month or two (I think Stephen King suggests similar in On Writing).

You really do come back to it with a fresh pair of eyes. There were a couple parts where I was like…”Huh…just what the hell was I trying to say there?” “That makes no sense!”

I think it’s made for quite a few improvements. I’m still biased in my read of this just because, well, I wrote the damn thing. But it’s also what has me so excited for the next step in the process. Some people may get nervous sending their book for an edit like this, but I couldn’t be more excited. After all, someone (especially someone as awesome as Trish) is taking the time to really go over this book with a lens that says, “Is this really the best it can be?” “Is this supporting the story?” Etc.

I’m excited for this next step (and told her so in my email this afternoon!).

So what else is coming down the pipe? Since we hit the season 2 finale for Cosmic Adventures, I’m going to take a small hiatus from that one. I might even take tonight off from writing (I’ve been writing every single night in some fashion, even with the flu, from November 2024 onwards).

But I’m already getting ideas for a new cozy urban fantasy novel, and I imagine by tomorrow I won’t be able to help myself…and the outlining will begin 🙂

Keep writing, writers!
